AM I TOO OLD TO GET BRACES?

I am sure you are thinking about this question. No matter your age, you deserve a smile that gives you confidence. Braces are not just for children anymore. With the latest advancements in technologies, we can get you the smile you deserve! Today, one in four orthodontic patients is an adult. Leaving misaligned teeth untreated may lead to other dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, teeth wear, and difficulty chewing. Orthodontic treatment creates a better bite, making teeth fit better and decreasing the risk of future dental problems regardless of age.

WHAT ARE MY TREATMENT OPTIONS?

With recent orthodontic advancements, there are now more adult treatment options than ever before. These treatment modalities are more comfortable and less noticeable for individuals of all ages. Many of today’s treatment options are designed to minimize the appearance of the appliance to better fit any lifestyle. Your Smile City orthodontist will consult with you about the options that fit best for your goals, needs and lifestyle, but here are some of the most common options for adult patients: 1) Traditional metal or Clear braces 2) Clear aligners and 3) Hybrid treatment (combination of aligners and Braces). Please read our services offered page for more details about these options.

DOES ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT DIFFER FOR ADULT PATIENTS?

The main difference in orthodontics for adults vs. children/teens is that adults are no longer growing. Adult treatment may be slightly longer than treatment for children/teens with a similar problem due to the increased bone density and maturity that adults have. Adult patients may also have some medical conditions or using medications that can prevent tooth movement and affect treatment outcome. Adults may also have periodontal problems such as bone loss that will require us to place gentle forces on your teeth and move teeth slowly through the bone. Some adult treatment plans may need a multidisciplinary approach to achieve optimal dental health.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT IN ADULT PATIENTS?

Orthodontic treatments are not just for your smile. Fixing your teeth can also dramatically change your oral health. When you have crooked teeth or a malocclusion (uneven bite), you may be prone to oral health problems such as gum disease and tartar buildup.
